It seems, off the top of my head, to be quite feasible to pass a message (via updating a file on-disk, most likely) to say "route next call on <devid> to <address>", and have faxrcvd honor that.

Agreed, it will be inconvenient for some senders -- but they can just send faxes without any extension-based routing and have them come out in a commonly-accessible area.

(Now, there's a far-future TODO where I'll *need* routing info to be retrievable from faxes -- but at this point I'm leaning towards using PDF417 barcodes for that, so long as the folks on the other end agree).
