Well, you could just have your fax DID enter into a context with all of the employee fax extensions listed... then ${EXTEN} becomes the employee fax extension. Of course, you'd need to pass that on to your modem.

It seems, off the top of my head, to be quite feasible to pass a message (via updating a file on-disk, most likely) to say "route next call on <devid> to <address>", and have faxrcvd honor that.

You *can* pass routing digits from Asterisk to the modem(s) without needing this kind of file-checking thing going on. Look for SHIELDED_DTMF in the archives (assuming your fax modem isn't DID-capable).

Agreed, it will be inconvenient for some senders -- but they can just send faxes without any extension-based routing and have them come out in a commonly-accessible area.

(Now, there's a far-future TODO where I'll *need* routing info to be retrievable from faxes -- but at this point I'm leaning towards using PDF417 barcodes for that, so long as the folks on the other end agree).

AND, the SHEILDED_DTMF information will get stored into the TIFF and should be displayed in the received fax notification message.

Lee.
