If I understand things correctly, the HylaFAX spool directory does not
necessarily have to be located in the /var directory.  It, as well as
all other HylaFAX directories, can be relocated anywhere by changing
certain parameters in the config.site file of the HylaFAX source tree.

Of course, this implies that you are compiling HylaFAX yourself and
not relying on any distribution.

But if you are experiencing permission conflicts, then you may want
to consider hard coding the HylaFAX directory locations elsewhere.
