Actually, I was wrong; looking here

it seems there are different versions of the same modem, only *-V92 supports
the new features (33k, ecm, maybe class2.1). I don't know why they do this
(I hope I understood well the web pages).

Maybe yes; if the problems are due to subtle protocol issues, changing class
may be an option.

If things stay the same, try resetting it to class1, put
SessionTracing:            0xFFF
in config.<devid>, restart faxgetty, send a fax, send a log.
