I was the longtime cheerleader for Class 2, and Lee has even convinced
*me*, with a little help from his friends[0].  So yes, in general, select
class 1 if you can, and I think the current CVS actually has a patch in
it to prefer class 1 when available -- at least, I remember seeing
such a patch fly across a list somewhere; whether it's actually been
committed, I don't remember..

[0] Harald and Dmitry, mostly[1].
[1] With apologies to anyone I forgot.
