AFAIK 3.5.4 has some fax hylafax-unrelated bugs, one should upgrade to
3.5.5.
details should be somewhere in the archives or on the libtif website.

I am not sure if it is a hylafax<->libtiff problem, because faxq seems to
run normal.

try to search to archives for your error message, for your modem brand
and/or for
flow control.
