I resolved my problem - mostly.

I erased the rpm package, retrieved a source distribution of the latest hylafax
beta,  compiled and installed that.  The tar file I received is labeled
hylafax-v4.0p12-rjc6.tar.gz.

As soon as I installed it, the fax I was attempting to send via Whfc client began
to dial out.  I needed to make some adjustments to the phone book, but that was
minor.  My remaining problem is the "response at end of page" problem.  Now I am
looking for a modem to replace my USR Sportster v.90 which is where I think this
problem resides.
