Re: Help with USR Sportster 33.6 modem, RedHat Linux 4.1
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
OK, I've progressed a bit with this. I have a dual-boot PC, where I've
just installed Linux 4.1. I've installed HylaFAX v4.0pl1, and am
having trouble seeing the modem.
If I leave the jumpers out, Win95 can see and use the modem but Linux
cannot: it is in fact a USR Sportster 33.6 fax/modem, which ordinarly
uses Plug 'n Pray. If I put jumpers in, I can see and use it under
Linux easily, I can *see* it under the Win95 Device Manager, but any
attempt to actually connect to it with Dial-Up Networking or the
Hyperterminal reports "modem not connected".
This, of course, sucks. Any Linux wienies out there have a clue on how
to get it to use the modem under Win95, with the COM and IRQ set with
the jumpers? Alternatively, have people had good success with the PnP
modules available for Linux?
