Do you have an hfaxd-entry in your /etc/inetd.conf (perhaps you answered
yes, when faxsetup asked you to create this entry for you)?
If this entry exists, then remove it, because you want to run it
standalone and the inetd reserved the port 4556, so you can't use it.
