Re: [hylafax-users] newbie here - a few questions...

1. Every time a fax is received, a mail is sent to the FaxMaster. This is fine.
And if it's really not, then see NOTIFY_FAXMASTER under FaxDispatch in
'man faxrcvd' .
The email address of the FaxMaster is listed as FaxMaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - for the sake of cosmetics, can this be changed to FaxMaster@xxxxxxxxxxxx ?
This was answered already... see /etc/aliases.
2. Is there such a thing as a windows client that will let me manage the HylaFax server - sort of like a GUI to add/remove users, create new entries in /etc/FaxDispatch etc etc? And if so, will it run on XP? Or is there a webmin module?
I don't know about webmin. There is no way to add/remove users or to
edit FaxDispatch from the hfaxd protocol. So if there is an
administrative utility to be found this way, it's probably a web-driven
app of some kind. I know this may sound unusual to someone accustomed
to Windows administration, but I prefer just editing text files to
GUI-thingies.
3. What client software is recommended for XP?
The one that works best for you. There are a whole slew of clients out
there - in part because they're relatively easy to write.
4. In syslog I see a lot of entries like:
RECV FAX (000000047): recvq/fax000000015.tif from 123456789, route to <unspecified>, 1 page in 0:19
To what does <unspecified> refer? The fax was correctly forwarded via /etc/FaxDispatch .
<unspecified> refers to subaddressing found in the fax protocol. See
SUBADDR in 'man faxrcvd'. Subaddressing was a very ingenious way to
accomplish routing within the fax protocol itself. Think about the
sender dialing your phone number, then "#" and then a 4-digit
subaddress. Unfortunately, most senders (fax machines) can't send
subaddresses.
