Re: [hylafax-users] Hylafax 4.2.1 and passing faxes to classic FAX device

I'm using Hylafax 4.2.1 on Slackware 9.1. 4 fax lines are connected
to modems, additionally these lines are connected (parallely) to
4 "classic" fax devices. Modems are set to answer incoming fax immediately after
ring and fax devices are set to receive after 3 rings (it's
some kind of backup solution in case of Hylafax server
hangup/down). It works good - faxes are
received by Hylafax and modems but sometimes some faxes are
"passed" to physical faxes even if there is no problem with
Hylafax server. Does anybody know what is the reason of such
behaviour of Hylafax (why it doesn't receive faxes after first
ring)?

One possibility is that the modems are in the process of resetting themselves (reinitializing) after a previous fax. If a call comes in during the initialization then some RINGs will be ignored by HylaFAX, and the modems won't be answering as soon as expected. AND, if the modem has a problem initializing while RINGs are being received, then it can be even more tricky.

Change your fax machines to answer on ring 5 or 6.

If these modems are on a hunt group see if your telco can run the lines in a "round robin" fashion. This will minimize the potential for this occurring.
