Re: [hylafax-users] Document Shrinkage

Our customers occasionally report this problem ... once you've figured it out once it's easy to recognize. The sender's sheet feeder seems to have goofed and fed the first two sheets as if they were one. So what you have is one very long page containing pages 1 & 2 (scaled to fit), and then a short one containing page 3. HylaFAX sometimes scales all pages according to the longest page, which may be why the third page is also affected.

This is a consequence of HylaFAX using tiff2ps -> ps2pdf because ps2pdf will only accept one page size... so the largest page size is used.

If using current CVS HEAD and a version of libtiff that has libtiff's tiff2pdf (3.6.0 and newer) then faxsetup will configure TIFF2PDF to point at libtiff's version rather than the HylaFAX tiff2ps/ps2pdf script. It's much, much quicker, and handles the variable page sizes correctly. It *will* choke on poorly formatted TIFF, however, so if the fax has lots of corrupt scanlines that didn't get cleaned up by HylaFAX's copy quality correction or if (for some reason) an empty page is received and saved, then it will generally segfault.
