Re: [hylafax-users] Troubleshooting receive fax problems

Hi Lee,
Thank you for the very fast reply!
As suggested i tried to substitute USR modem, now i have a rockwell RC288DPi configured as Class 1,
no more garbage in logs now, but in receiving faxes i get LOTS of random errors like following (2 different logs with different errors included)

May this be caused by a noise line or something like that (PABX)??? The strange thing is that a fax machine attached to that same line works perfectly.... This error is making me crazy!

Thanks again

max

sometimes i get .... i am experiencing random problems in receiving fax on a fresh new Hylafax 4.2.0 installation on a USR modem
PRoblems seem to arise only in receiving faxes (sending is ok). SOmetimes i receive only some page, somtimes i receive no page. This happens in about 60% of incoming faxes.

I enclose 2 different error logs, hope this helps to fix my problems

i tried with Class1TCFRecvHack: yes but after this i had lots of garbage in log files and a commented out the setting.

Class1TCFRecvHack is really only for debugging, anyway. *Some* (few) installations may need to use it permanently, but that's just because the real fix isn't yet available. (I'm working on it.)

Yeah, these are traditional USR problems. The modem firmware "crashed" there. You can see the garbage as it resets itself.

Some people have reported that not using +FTS/+FRS have worked around this issue. Some people have reported that a flash upgrade from USR has helped them.

People who are serious about faxing, though, use modems from manufacturers who are also serious about faxing. USR is certainly not one of those manufacturers.

Lee.
