Actually, the DRON/DROFF method is now the standard.  I think that 
standard is IS-101 or something.  All new modems supporting distinctive 
ring should be supporting that formatting.

HylaFAX was able to work with it by matching the DRON=n and/or DROFF=n, 
but it was ugly and not very configurable.  George's work is supposed 
to give HylaFAX the needed enhancments.
