I have been putting my head behind the scenes:
it is an E-Tech E56AVP (www.e-tech.nu) external modem with
Ambient/Intel
chipset, connected over ttyS0.

Well, I don't see any new firmware for it on their website, but you may want to check with E-Tech for a fix. The problem will need to be resolved by them, though.


Modem did receive some faxes well after this sendfailure without
problems.

Receiving and sending are often vastly different creatures.
