I have read on this list that libtiff3g version 3.6.* is broken?

If you really want the technical details on it you can read all about it here:

http://bugs.hylafax.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=500

The problem that is normally an issue is only found in libtiff 3.6.1. But since most binary distributions do not distribute .0 versions, the option usually is only to downgrade to libtiff 3.5.7.

The problem will only surface when HylaFAX uses TIFFWriteEncodedStrip, and this will only occur when ECM is not being used and when copy quality correction is enabled (see 'man hylafax-config').

So, the solution is to downgrade to libtiff 3.5.7 or, if you build your binaries, to apply the patch supplied in the link on Bugzilla.

This libtiff problem has surfaced an innumerable amount of times already. You could have found this information by simply looking at the HylaFAX website homepage, or by doing an archive search.

Lee.
