Well, it's an improvement. First, I removed the fax by deleting the
configuration file (config.ttyS0) and restarting hylafax. Then I used
the faxaddmodem script to re-add the modem; it selected Class1 for me.

So far, the result is that hylafax is communicating with those faxes
that it had previously been having problems with, but now the resulting
TIF files aren't legible: all they show is a collection of vertical lines.

Any idea how tis might be corrected?

Following are a copy of my hylafax log with a typical log entry for the
above behaviour, plus a copy of my current modem configuration file.
