Re: [hylafax-users] Remote modem



Nico,

This problem is normal when using a modem connected to a terminal server.
Because the modem isn't connected directly to a com port, you can't use all
the I/O commands that you would normally be able to use. I'm not exactly
sure what faxaddmodem is trying to do in this situation that makes it fail,
but it is probably lowering the DTR signal and expecting a response or
something like that. The pseudo tty device only provides for sending and
receiving characters - not manipulating the other normal com port
parameters.

The way around it is to connect the modem directly to a com port on the
server and run faxaddmodem so that the modem is detected correctly. Once the
config file for that modem is written, move it to the correct filename (eg:
mv config.ttyS0 config.ttya0), add a faxgetty entry for ttya0, and you
should be right.
