Did you add your clients/network to etc/hosts.hfaxd ?

The problem here is the telnet command. It is not capable of opening the 
data-channel for transfer. Use an ftp-client instead.
Instead of "LIST" use "ls", as this is transferred as "LIST" by the 
ftp-client.
