I rebooted and still get same "sendmail dead but pid file exists" message.
Did: [root@faxserver root]# ps ax | grep sendmail
and got:
2077 ? S 0:00 [sendmail.sendma]
2093 ? S 0:00 [sendmail.sendma]
2141 pts/1 S 0:00 grep sendmail
What do you suggest now? Thanks for all your help!

I don't see sendmail at startup nor any errors.

The last line in the /var/log/mail/errors file says:
Apr 18 03:42:22 faxserver sendmail[12327]: h3I7fJnP012327: SYSERR(root): hash
map "generics": missing map file /etc/mail/genericstable.db: No such file or
directory
How do we fix that?
