I installed enscript and added the lines you proposed here.  The default
media thing doesn't work, you have to manually specify a4 (mind the
lowercase).  However, sendfax returns the following message:

# sendfax -d 123456789 /etc/hosts
/usr/local/lib/fax/typerules: line 153: Unknown result "enscript"[ 1
pages * 1 copy ] left in /tmp//sndfaxxy1fZs
request id is 5 (group id 5) for host localhost (1 file)

line 153 is in typerules is right before the 2nd enscript line (of the 3
you mentioned above).  I can't figure out what this error means,
although it seems that the fontproblem itself has disappeared.
