[hylafax-users] Please, still HELP !!! HylaFAX on SuSE 6.4

Meanwhile I have tried out the hylafax rpm's which were in the "discontinued"
path of the suse ftp server.

Well, it still does not work. I replaced the following files:
  libtiff.rpm
  tiff.rpm
  hylafax.rpm

The result is:
--------------
o I can start now hylafax without a failure message.
o I can do a "faxstat" and get the expected answers (Ready and idle)
o When I do a simple
   sendfax -m -n -d 123456 /etc/printcap
... I get the message: "Cannot find out filetype" or in this manner.
When I do the same with an example file of GhostScript, the job is
queued within seconds, but sending is never started. All I get is a file
in the .../docq and an entry in .../sendq. Also, sendfax -s shows me the
  job.
o When I try top receive a FAX, All I get is "Waiting for modem to become
ready", instead of "Answering". And then the whole hylafax freezes in
this state. All I can do is a "rchylafax stop" and then I still have to
kill "faxq" manually as root, because it persists in memory.
After that, when I di a "rchylafax start", the modem is "Running and Idle"
  again.

Meanwhile I read a lot about how strange SuSE 6.4 is. Do yu see any chance to
get hylafax running on this machine with only installing some particular rpms?

| Hello, all!
|
| I have a big problem with hylafax on a SuSE 6.4 machine. I read that there
| were problems with libtiff, so SuSE simply left HylaFAX out of the 6.4
| distribution... (Also a way to prevent problems, but of no help...)
|
| Now I have to install HylaFAX on a SuSE 6.4 machine. Because of the missing
| Hylafax in this distribution, I took an older SuSE 6.1 and installed this
| Hylafax. But nor I need a failure-free "libjpeg.so.6" to make it run. I
| tried it at this moment with a manually entered symlink
| libjpeg.so.6 -> libjpeg.so.62.0.0
| but this does not work. At startup of Hylafax I get the following messages
| here, so I am afraid that this will cause troubles:
|
| miraculix:/usr/lib # rchylafax start
| Starting service HylaFAX/usr/sbin/faxq: Symbol `TIFFFaxBlackTable' has
| different size in shared object, consider re-linking
| /usr/sbin/faxq: Symbol `TIFFFaxMainTable' has different size in shared object,
| consider re-linking
| /usr/sbin/faxq: Symbol `TIFFFaxWhiteTable' has different size in shared
| object, consider re-linking
|
|
|
| Intelligent as SuSE is, they deleted all older files from their servers, so I
| cannot get it from there.
|
| IS SOMEBODY HERE, WHO CAN E-MAIL ME THE MISSING FILE OR POINT ME TO A
| LOCATION WHERE I CAN GET IT? - I would highly appreciate for this help.
|
| Thanks in advance,

mfg
