I guess every user has a different experience. I spent two weeks trying to
get a Multitech MT1932ZDX running reliably with Hylafax. In desperation, I
plugged in an internal no-name Class 1 modem and it worked with absolutely
no problems. I'm not saying it was the modem itself that was at fault, it
was most likely the serial interface. Since my experience seems to be the
exception, I'd probably give a Multitech a go, and if you run into problems
try another serial port. But I'd be inclined to try whatever you've got
lying around first, provided it's not a Winmodem.
