I did but nothing changed.
I read in the CHANGES file the following lines:
"break the initialization string apart and
  remove ModemOnHookCmd from it (03 Jun 2001)"
and
"added ModemDTRDropDelay config option and default,
  correcting some "Can not setup modem" issues (20 May 2001)"

In fact I saw from the log that the string was broke apart, but the modem
hangs after the ATE0\r command.
No way to change/bypass this behaviour to see if this could be the problem?
I've changed into the source code ModemCOnfig.c++ the echo off string from
ATE0 into ATE1...  it was the pnly reference of ATE** into source files. I
rebuilt, installed, but obtained no result, but I'm not shure it was a right
way. What do you think?

Not to ask an obvious question, but did you do a faxaddmodem after you
installed rc2?
