I suggest that you have a look into the /etc/passwd file to ensure
that the fax user has been set up okay - there should be an entry like:

fax:*:10:14:Facsimile Agent:/var/spool/fax:

Then edit the /etc/inittab file to run faxgetty - again an entry like:

# Let faxgetty look after the modem
t0:23:respawn:/usr/local/sbin/faxgetty ttyS0

reinitialize initd with 'telinit q' and so start faxgetty.
Note that I am using ttyS0 rather than cua0 as the serial device name.

Next is to have both faxq and hfaxd start at bootup. I do not know how
slackware does this - RedHat has a directory of scripts in /etc/rc.d/init.d
which are then linked in other directories equating to the boot levels.

At a push you can simply add the commands to your rc.local file:

# Start HylaFAX
/usr/local/sbin/faxq
/usr/local/sbin/hfaxd -i hylafax

'ps -ax |grep fax' should show now faxgetty, faxq and hfaxd.

You need faxgetty running, RingsBeforeAnswer set higher than zero, and the
correct GettyArgs parameters.

'sendfax -n -d 123456 /etc/passwd'

Because there is too much English language already in the world. Surely
there's room for other cultures in the global village? 'Vive la difference!'
as Uli would say.
Delete the file \windows\system\whfclang.ger if you really must, and Whfc
will revert to English.
