flexfax: password problems??

I've successfully installed Hylafax from the rpm's that came with SuSE 5.3.  I
can telnet into hfaxd and log in.

However, I can't get admin status.  I getting getting asked for a password. 
I've tried putting a null password in hosts for a user "root" but that hasn't
worked.

How do I get around this???
