corrupted transmissions

Hi,

I'm trying to track down a very mysterious problem. I am running
Hylafax 4.0pl1 on a Pentium PRO running Solaris x86 2.5.1, with
a Multitech MT1932ZDX modem for dial-out faxes only.

It works great 95% of the time. On the other 5%, it gets half
way down the page that it sends out some noise. The noise looks
like random horizontal lines, with some dots around it. My first
guess is that there was interference on the phone line, but we've
tried switching to other lines and having the phone company check
the integrity of the lines all the way up to the jack. I also
thought that maybe it was an IRQ confict, but I've tried several
of those. I've also tried moving the modem around (away from
noise) thinking that might be it.

The thing is, it does not seem to be linked to particular documents.
i.e. I can resend a document that was corrupted without any problems,
both from the postscript document generated and the original ASCII.
There does not seem to be any errors in the transmission logs either.

Does anybody have any ideas of what this might be?

Thanks in advance,

eric.
