Re: [hylafax-users] Digital HylaFAX Solution Recommendation

I'm currently running HylaFAX 4.1.8 on RedHat9 with a single four-port modem card. I am looking for a better solution to my current setup that will have more redundancy and eight or more fax lines. I'm impressed with the capabilities of digital and I was wondering if it will be a viable solution for my enterprise. I'm asking you what solutions/recommendations have worked best for a digital HylaFAX setup? My primary goal is to have eight or more outgoing lines and the ability to have two or more rack mount servers for redundancy/fail-over.

You can have eight or more lines with both digital or analog. Pricing between comparable an analog deployment or a digital deployment will vary quite a bit depending on the providers and your arrangements with them... so you may want to factor that in to your decision making. Hardware prices, too, will vary, dependinng on what you purchase and how you purchase it. However, your options with an analog deployment are greater than those with digital.

With analog you can use MainPine RockForce, MultiTech ISI, Comtrol RocketModems (II and not III), and Equinox Multimodems. The maximum density is 8 modems per card... so you'll need one or more cards depending on your needs. I would recommend using any of these in Class 1/1.0.

With digital you can go with Patton 2977 (in Class 1 after a firmware update), Eicon Diva Server, or a slightly more complicated arrangment with Asterisk PBX and iaxmodem with any suitable hardware there. My recommendation here is to go with the Patton.

Anyway, we have this conversation about once a month here... you may want to check the archives.

Lee.
