My suggestion would be the following:
1.) For faxing with HylaFAX, buy one of the modems that have been recommended by many users. (Search the archives and look at the (two) website(s).
2.)Don't bother using VOIP for faxing, unless you plan on using T.38, which is a completely different animal.
I guess I wasn't super clear. I have a need to send and receive lots of faxes.
My need is not to send documents, but to test FAX functionality of VOIP equipment.
(Part of the testing is to make sure T.38 functionality is working properly.)
What I really wanted to confirm was that the USR modems are, erm, *unreliable*.
(It seems I'm not the only one who's been duped! I sent a nastygram to USR about it...)
What modems do you recommend?
(My second modem purchase was a pair of MultiTech MT5634ZPX-PCI-U modems.
They seem to work much better!)
