While competing sites are ok and messing around with the code in GPL
software is acceptable, legal and encouraged, I think that website
owners probably still have Copyright and trademark protection for the
look and feel of their websites and any unique catch phrases such as
"The Hylafax Development Team" etc...

I have to agree with Darren on this one.  In my opinion, the sourceforge

site look and feel, mailing list, bug tracker, duplication/fragmentation

does indeed foster confusion (more clarity about the differences would 
be better) but (intentional or not) is within your rights to do.  The 
sub-releases and "Team" name goes too far and, I'd say, either needs the

approval of the hylafax-devel list consensus (whatever that is), or 
needs a distinct name for the releases and for the "Team" that is 
described as having produced it.

My two cents, and, as Charles said, I think I'd better back away calmly 
and get back to work.
