I think you should prefer MIME encoding. Some mail readers cannot process uuencoded attachments.

You probably have metamail installed

No, my fax server is a Debian system. My system uses a program base64-encode from package mime-codecs. I use pre-compiled packages which means the maintainer handles the dependencies for me.
(I still have 4.2.1 but a 4.2.2 package is available.)


and you should remove the MIMENCODE line.

Somewhere I have MIMENCODE=base64-encode but I did not have to care.

So, what now? just install metamail?

I suggest you install metamail and re-run faxsetup.
