This is the session log not syslog.
And, the NO CARRIER message is coming from the modem, so... you'd
probably need to contact Linuxant for a resolution to this. They
recently suggested to someone that they use an ATX command in their
dialstring.

Only now the syslog now tells me "no carrier detected":

Hylafax seems to think the modem is just fine

Apparently there used to be a bug related to this issue. But the
status looks to be resolved.
