Re: [hylafax-users] No carrier detected (SOLVED)

Lee,

The problem was much simpler than I thought. We have two fax lines. The fax machines are connected to one and the fax modem is connected to the other. The line used by the fax machines treats 4356541387 as a local number. But for some wierd reason, to the line used by the fax modem 4356541387 is a long distance number! So, all I had to do was prepend 1 before the number. 14356541387.

How did I find his out?
I used minicom and tried the ATDT command with the fax number to check if I get the same response as Hylafax. I got the same NO CARRIER detected message. Hence, I ruled out Hylafax out of the equation. It just occured to me to try appending 1 before the number. And am glad that it worked. If it that did not work, as Lee suggested, my next step would have been to try and change the firmware on the modem.

Thanks for all your help, Lee.
Joe.

Nope. AFAIK, we dont have any PBX. We have two independent fax lines with two different numbers. One fax line is used by the fax machines. And the other fax line is used by the fax modem.

Use the line that is usually used by the fax machines and plug it into the fax modem and then test. Make sure that you are dialing the same digits that you dial on the fax machines.

Its very encouraging that you were successfully able to fax from your end using the same modem (but a different firmware). Anything that I should look for?

You may want to try different variations of the firmware to see if any make a difference. If they don't, then something else (other than the modem and HylaFAX) appears to be the difference, and you'll need to just try different things and see... I guess. I don't really know what to tell you from here.

Lee.
