Ok. Different modem wedged this time. For all trying to keep up I have two

Right after that modem1 wedged. While the com log didn't show anything, looking
at /var/log/messages showed some errors.

First I got a kernel error "LSR safety check engaged!"

I'm reminded of these threads:

  http://www.hylafax.org/archive/2004-04/msg00040.html
  http://www.hylafax.org/archive/2004-07/msg00396.html

before FaxGetty reports
"MODEM setBaudRate::tcgetattr: Input/output error".

I assume that is the root of the problem but I have no idea what the kernel error is stating.

I saw those "LSR safety check engaged" messages once, I think with non-MultiTech hardware, though. It had to do with IRQ problems or a loose card. I can't remember exactly anymore.

Well, it doesn't appear to be anything that HylaFAX is doing specifically. The modem appears to just hang.

Feb 18 14:22:03 mail FaxGetty[3343]: /dev/modem1: Can not initialize modem.

I'm not a big fan of running faxgetty on symlinks, if it can be avoided. Why are you?

Lee.

Hi Lee,

Thats how I found the devices. Put it down to being in a hurry and a short
window to do what I had to do. I know that they are ttyS14 and ttyS15
now and I'll reconfigure the config files.

Mike
