On Solaris 9, at least, you definitely didn't want to use Sun's, but had
to keep it for some other stuff they had bundled with the OS. I tended to
compile  libtiff from source and install into /usr/local/lib, then compile
hylafax from source against that version. FWIW, we've since moved our
hylafax servers to linux because it seems to be better supported, but
Solaris is still a supported platform so it should work fine once you get
it built.
