Any ideas please?  Oh, I did turn up the servertracing in the conf file,
but not sure where to look.  Would someone give me a pointer, it is set to
"daemon".

Try useing cu to manually dial the modem to ensure they are working correctly. If you haven't you use also powercycle the modems.
