I think that if you were to look at more of the log you would see some
kind of modem problem soon after an AT+FRS=n or AT+FTS=n. It turns out
that some USR modems can react badly to these commands sometimes. You
may want to look at the Topic default configuration file (config/topic)
and change the *WaitCmds to the <delay:n> settings. Then try that. Or
yes, you could use a modem other than USR like a MultiTech.
This is just a guess, though, as you didn't show the whole log.
