[hylafax-users] Upgrade of Debian hylafax breaks server.

Please help!

I have not had a working installation of hylafax since late June.
Today, I forcefully and recursively removed the /etc/hylafax and
/var/spool/hylafax directories. And used apt-get remove to uninstall
hylafax, both -client and -server.

Then I reinstalled hylafax, again using apt-get.

Now when I try to run faxsetup, I get this error:
FATAL ERROR: /etc/hylafax/pagesizes does not exist!

So I commented out the line which kills that bash script so I could get
past that error and install it anyway (restoring the line when I was
through).

I ran faxaddmodem for ttyS0 and ttyS1

I ran faxadduser -p <password> hesco

Then:

biko:~# ps aux | grep fax

in another shell, as the hesco user, I get this:

hesco@biko:~$ faxstat
Password:
Login failed: 530 Login incorrect.
hesco@biko:~$

I'm at a loss as to how to proceed and the frustration levels are
getting pretty high here. Any clues would be appreciated. Thanks.

Back in late June I wrote to this list:

and Giuseppe responded:
Hi,
from your report it seems that the server doesn't start, while faxgetty
is correctly workimg.

This is most probably due to some fundamental changes in the package
structure I did in order to completely put hylafax in a chroot
environment.

I would like to have a look at the /var/log/syslog lines added by
hylafax when you run '/etc/init.d/hylafax restart' and I would like
to have the output of 'ls -la /var/spool/hylafax'.

Could you please provide this information?

Thanks,
Giuseppe
