 That's because it's a generic config for this chip type. All things are
not equal, just because it uses that chip!
 The phrase "with SOME of these modems" did point that bit out.

 Also, if you have tried an option that didn't help, it may be worth while
mentioning such, so that people don't give you more responses to be tardy
to!
