[hylafax-users] Typerules and pdf conversion
Hi,
[HylaFAX version 4.1.5 on Redhat Linux 8]
HylaFAX is failing to convert certain pdf files for transmission.
I tried to run the pdf2ps command (Ghostscript wrapper) from the command
line and I am able to recreate the same error from the command line. The
pdftops command (part of Xpdf) seems to be able to convert these pdfs to
postscript.
So, I configured HylaFAX to use pdftops instead of pdf2ps by making the
following changes in the typerules file
#0 string %PDF ps
#0 string %PDF ps pdf2ps %i %o
0 string %PDF ps pdftops %i %o
After restarting HylaFAX, the fax server is still not using the pdftops.
After much tracing, I find that the server is calling /var/../bin/pdf2fax,
which is a script invokingGhostscript, the same as what pdf2ps does.
I am assuming the pdf2fax script is used by the server to perform the
conversion internally. Even after I override the default pdf conversion
behavior by explicitly asking the server to use pdftops, why it not coming
in effect.
Since I already spent couple of days trying to figure this out, I am tempted
to correct the error by running say a sed command on the pdf file,
Unfortunately, I am not that knowledgeable with the pdf/postscript formats.
If anyone is knowledgeable and kind enough to take a look at the offending
pdfs, I can send you a sample.
Thanks,
Binu
