Matt,

I have now tried libtiff 3.4*, 3.5* & 3.6* - all to no avail, resulting in the same error message:

... checking TIFF library version
ld.so.1: ./a.out: fatal: relocation error: file ./a.out: symbol TIFFGetVersion: referenced symbol not found
  Found tiffio.h version 0
  Found libtiff version

Incompatible TIFF Library.

I'm not sure whether it is really finding the tiffio.h and libtiff or if it is returning the wrong version number.

Try using libtiff version 3.5.7. Version 3.6* causes various problems.
