We use HylaFAX with class 1 modems connected to terminal servers around our
network and we don't have many problems at all with sending faxes. We were
having more problems with Multitech class 2 modems than class 1 modems. Some
of our sites. Our main fax server is based in Melbourne and we have modems
connected to terminal servers in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and now New Zealand
and they are working beautifully. So from my experience, the timing does not
seem to be a big issue. Over a LAN you should be fine with class 1.
