You use postfix as MTA? Was this recognized by HylaFAX / is there a
script in /usr/sbin/sendmail for compatibility reasons, that directs
mail to postfix?

It seems that you a have a problem with your mail configuration. As i am
not familiar with Mandrake an no expert for configuring postfix, i can't
help you further.
May be your problem could be better solved on a mailing list for
postfix/mandrake specific questions.
