i've seen this problem popup elsewhere on the net, but apparently nobody
has a real solution for it. imo this should be tackled by the
developers.

i checked the AFMS_DIR directive in the configure script, and the path
where my font metrics are is in the list of "guess paths", so that
shouldn't be a problem either should it?

i don't seem to find that file though.
any other suggestions
