Re: [hylafax-users] Cheap fax cards.

Eric,

Dedicated fax boards (such as Dialogic/Brooktrout/Gammafax) are generally
manufactured by companies who have a very large investment in doing fax
correctly. Contrast this to, for instance, to analog data modem
manufacturers such as USR, who added consumer-grade fax capability to their
product but never really took the time to get it right. Even if problems are
reported, and believe me, we've tried, ... there's just no motivation for
them to address the problems ... at the end of the day they just don't think
they'll sell more modems.

For the absolute highest successful call completion rates (lowest possible
error rates) and maximum performance, dedicated fax boards are the right
choice no matter what port density you need (they come in anywhere from 1-8
port analog and 1-30 port digital).

If 93% success rate is OK to you, then you're not missing anything. Save the
big bucks and go with a few analog modems, whether they're internal PCI
boards or otherwise. If you want to get closer to 99%, invest the extra
money. If fax is a vital part of your company's operations, ... it might be
worth taking the time to get it right! ;-)
