The preferred way to setup the modem for HylaFax use is via 
/etc/inittab. This just seems to work better and has fewer problems.

Go to http://www.hylafax.org/setup.html#Inbound - this will setup 
HylaFax to use the modem and its ability to receive faxes.

If you don't want to receive faxes, then change RingsBeforeAnswer to 0 
in etc/config.<devid>. This will enable a send-only environment for HylaFax.
