[hylafax-users] hylafax can't talk to modem, kermit can

I am running Redhat 8.0 on a Pentium III machine. My modem is a USR Sportster VI on ttyS3.

I verified the modem connection as follows.

linux# kermit
C-Kermit 6.0.192, 6 Sep 96, for Linux
...
C-Kermit>set line /dev/ttyS3
C-Kermit>set carrier-watch off
C-Kermit>set speed 115200
/dev/ttyS3, 115200 bps
C-Kermit>c
...
ATE1Q0V1
OK
ATDT7654321

All this worked. The phone I dialed rang. I then installed and configured hylafax 4.1.5. faxaddmodem could not talk to the modem. I tried rebooting to rule out interference from kermit, and ran the following.

...

[root@localhost images]# /usr/sbin/probemodem -s 19200
Serial port that modem is connected to []? ttyS3
...
Using user-specified 19200 to talk to modem.

There was no response from the modem. Perhaps the modem ...

What should I do next?
