I have similar problems with an elsa modem (sporadic errors)
you may try to upgrade to a current version (4.1.2)
which has some enhancements in the modem reset procedure
and you may try (but this is not recommended)
to use
ModemAtCmdDelay: 10
in your modem config. This worked for me (AFAIR) but may/will
break fax protocoll timing.
