[hylafax-users] Far to often "No carrier detected"

Hej

I thougth I was an experiend HylaFAX user, as i have a 3 year old system running, which sends

about 300 faxes a day. - And the error rate is close to 0. This is Redhat 7.1, HylaFAX 4.1beta2

on some old 486 PC and a Multi-Tech MT1432 modem.

 

But. - About 14 days ago i installed a new system on a HP NetServer 800-serie (Pentium) with

Redhat 7.2 kernel 2.4.7-10  and  HylaFAX 4.1.2.

The system was supposed to send about 500 fax's each day, each fax of 1-2 pages.

I use two modems: Multi-Tech MT2834ZDXI and ZyXEL Omni56K (firmware 1.1).

This is currently a send-only system (ie. RingsBeforeAnswer=0).

 

I get the error "No carrier detected" far to often.

 

I found a lot of writing about the problem on the net, but no useful solution.

I hope some-one know  "how-to".

I have tried all kind off suggestions found in mailing-lists and FAQ's.

 

1) The ZyXEL modem:

This is not of much value, as the half of the times it gives the error "Invalid Dialing Command"

and the rest gives "No carrier detect". - Where do I get the recommended firmware version 1.2,

I can't find it on the net.

 

2) The Multi-Tech MT2834ZDXI:

Basically I use the standard .../config/mt-1432 config file with small variation:

ModemType:       Class2

ModemRate:    19200

ModemFlowControl:    rtscts

ModemSetupDCDCmd:    AT&C4            # recommended by Multi-Tech staf (the default is &C1)

 

I tried to change the modem initialy setup to:

        AT&F

        ATS38=35

        AT&F9

        AT&W0

 

I tried to use

        ATS7=75

        NoCarrierRetrys:    5

        JobReqNoCarrier:    10

 

None of the above made any difference.

The errorstats.sh script from Robert Colquhoun shows a rate of 240/1000
