How did you set up pdf delivery?  faxrcvd-mail with 4.1 or FaxDispatch in 
4.1.1?

In any case, you probably don't have metamail installed.  If you have 
uuencode installed you can do this in FaxDispatch (I think):

MIMENCODE=uuencode;
FILETYPE=pdf;
SENDTO=FaxMaster;
